Rebeccas Restaurant -The Lodge, Cloudcroft NM

We spent the fourth of July in Cloudcroft, NM and enjoyed the history and comfort of The Lodge, nearly 100 years old. The resident spirit is named Rebecca, for whom the restaurant is named. The dining room is a lovely wood paneled room that reminds you of a hunting lodge. In the evening, oil lamps are lit on the tables and the lights of Alamogordo can be faintly seen 4,000 ft. below at the foot of the mountains on the desert floor. It’s a nice place to escape for a weekend getaway.

We enjoyed hand cut Kansas City strip steaks that the chef prepared perfectly. Along with the steak the chef presented baby red potatoes and vegetables. It was an excellent meal in a lovely setting. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The only thing we missed was music for atmosphere. There was a piano in the center of the room but no pianist on the evening of the fourth of July. Except for our conversation and that of other tables, the room was silent which left a flat feeling. Otherwise we had a wonderful dining experience. More for adults or couples, the prices were what you would expect at a lodge, most dinners were priced at $28 to $30. If you get a chance to go to Cloudcroft, it is worth a visit.
